"Is everyone ready?" Mr. Bell said to the chorus of birds. Wise Guy, the owl, wasn't ready.

"Sing with all your heart." Mr. Bell swung his doggy arms about.


"Talent Night is only a day away."

Wise Guy was not singing with all his heart. He wasn't singing at all. He stood in the flock and opened his beak. But he didn't let out a single sound.

Wise Guy could say WHOOOOOooooo., But he couldn't sing. He had no talent. No talent at all.

"Louder, louder," said Mr. Bell.

The chorus of birds opened their beaks wider and wider. Out came a great treble of song. TWITTER TWEET TWEET TWITTER. But not one twitter came from Wise Guy. Not one tweet. Not even the littlest, lightest tremble of a song.

Mr. Bell looked at Wise Guy. He saw Wise Guy's open beak. He must have imagined . . .
